Here is a song I wrote when I was a Junior in high school. I took it off the internet because I have a realistic fear of being canceled. Now, after much consideration, I’ve realized that I don’t care. This song meant something to me because it was my rebel song aimed at the school I went to. I didn’t attack a group of people, and in the context of the song, I believe it was appropriate–immature? Yes! But, seventeen-year-old Devon was talented and didn’t care.
Here is the song. I hope you like it and I hope you’re smart enough to understand the context. Because, just like a South Park Episode, the context is more important than the actual words or images used.
D49 Lyrics:
Verse 1:
Ahh Shit…
D49 schools are run by belligerent fools
Telling us what to do.
When we were young you told us fight back
But you can’t say that, no we can’t say that
Verse 2:
Dumb sluts, narcissistic cheerleaders, faggot stoners, and you.
Your innovation–it doesn’t work
I still fall apart
You’re always on top
Verse 3:
And when was the last time you were in a classroom, I assume never?
And when was the last time you were in a classroom, I assume never?
And when was the last time you saw a child cry, I assume never?
And when will you go? Just leave me alone.
Dammit…
